The upcoming film is currently set to hit theaters on March 20 and stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role of Ryland Grace. If you're not already familiar with the story, Project Hail Mary is being adapted from Andy Weir's best-selling novel of the same name. Weir is mostly known in the entertainment world for writing The Martian, which was a triumph both as a both a book and a movie (see IGN's glowing review).

As a book-to-movie adaptation, Project Hail Mary has been getting a lot of attention lately. Just today it was announced that the final movie trailer will be played during the Super Bowl this Sunday. What I didn't expect to see was any sort of LEGO announcement. Nevertheless, the plastic brick company has thrown its weight behind the film and we're officially getting the very first LEGO Project Hail Mary set ahead of the movie's release, on March 1.

The LEGO Project Hail Mary Set Is Up for Preorder

Set #: 11389

Piece Count: 830

Age: 18+

The LEGO Project Hail Mary set features the ship itself, which of course is called simply the Hail Mary. This is a specialized space vessel powered by Astrophage and captained by Ryland Grace. The build itself is made up of 830 pieces and is supported by a display stand. Like most 18+ sets, this is specifically designed to be placed on a shelf or a desk rather than as a playtoy. With that in mind, though, there are still multiple ways you can actually display the ship once everything is put together.

The set also comes with two minifigures, Ryland Grace and Rocky. For those who aren't familiar with the book already, Rocky is an alien creature who looks a bit like a giant rock crab. Despite his appearance, he is an experienced engineer and absolutely essential to the mission.

The Project Hail Mary set is now available to preorder from the LEGO Store and Amazon for $99.99 with a March 1 release date. This set will be arriving with a ton of other new sets, including the Star Wars Smart Brick sets that LEGO revealed at CES earlier this year.

What is Project Hail Mary About?

If you're interested in the story this LEGO set is based off of, I can't recommend the book enough. Andy Weir's novel is one of my favorite sci-fi books of all time and is absolutely worth a read. Here's a quick synopsis of the book from Penguin Random house:

"Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going."

While counting, Ruffalo suggested Hemsworth was in six Avengers movies — even though his current total (including his announced appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday) is five.

Marvel fans have pounced on the clip, which is now being shared around social media, as evidence that Thor survives the events of Doomsday long enough to be around for its sequel. There's the suggestion, too, that Ruffalo is speaking like he's in the same boat — which would mean Hulk makes it to Secret Wars as well.

Mark Ruffalo spoils that Chris Hemsworth is returning as Thor in ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’

(via @BuzzFeedUK) pic.twitter.com/16BC4YS9pt
— Avengers Updates (@AvengersUpdated) February 4, 2026

While it's not a huge surprise to learn that Hulk and Thor aren't part of Doomsday's spree of seemingly-inevitable deaths, Hemsworth had previously sparked speculation he was preparing to say farewell to the character, after issuing an ominous sounding note of gratitude for having played the part (something he later backtracked on somewhat).

Thor's recent Avengers: Doomsday trailer (that's not a trailer, apparently) also struck a somber tone, as Thor begs for strength from his fallen father so he can return home to his daughter. And finally, there have been the usual questions around how long these actors want to continue playing the roles that have now taken up well over a decade of their lives.

"One, two, three, four — how many have we done?" Hemsworth says, counting out loud.

"Six," Ruffalo responds.

"Six?!" Hemsworth replies, surprised.

"Well, there will be," Ruffalo says.

After counting some more, Hemsworth then replies: "Yeah, but we haven't shot that one."

For those who've also lost count, four Avengers movies have been released to date (The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, and Endgame) with a fifth, Avengers: Doomsday, already in the can. Secret Wars would certainly be a sixth (though this would seemingly put an end to the speculation that Marvel is secretly planning to split Secret Wars in two, to make a new Avengers trilogy.)

Of course, even if Thor (or Hulk) does appear in the multiversal Secret Wars, all bets are off as to what form any appearance might take. Even if Hemsworth does return, it could still be via flashback, alternate version, or even a deathly appearance set in Valhalla, hanging out with Jane and Heimdall.

For now, Marvel has said very little about Secret Wars, as it focuses attention on Doomsday. There's no official confirmation yet on any Secret Wars cast members (as, obviously, these would be a spoiler), though a report recently revealed that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink would reprise her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role in the movie, sparking speculation she was secretly playing a major character.

Image credit: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for SiriusXM.

Tom Phillips is IGN's News Editor. If it's something you can buy, there's probably a Disneyfied version of it that has existed at some point in time. And while I do think there's maybe a bit too much Disney stuff out there already, I'm not mad that the Toy Story Space Crane toy is making a comeback.

Toy Story was one of my favorite movies as a kid and is, in my opinion, the best overall Pixar movie franchise of all time. It originally launched as a Disney Parks' Exclusive back in 2022 with a different name (you can still find the old version on Amazon). From what I can tell from looking at old unboxing videos, the new version looks exactly the same in almost every way. I'm not sure when the old model was retired from Disney's online storefront, but this new version quietly became available exclusively at the Disney Store at the end of January 2025 and has just been sitting here waiting for fans to find it again.

As for what the toy actually does, it's essentially a fully functioning claw game in the shape of a miniature rocket ship. You can move the joystick to adjust the claw and push the button to drop it. You'll also get 10 little aliens you can put in the machine to retrieve. The original Space Crane toy included various sound effects, which may or may not be present in this new version. Thankfully, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Apple exec Eddy Cue have you covered with an answer, or at least most of one.

“I got one last question that they asked,” Cue said during Apple TV’s recent press day, during which he had a live conversation with Domenicali. “It’s my favorite question of all, and it’s kind of a boomerang because both of us will answer: Is there going to be another Formula 1 movie given the success and how great the first movie was?”

Domenicali gave fans some hope. “Stay tuned,” he replied. “We’re going to tell you something more in the future. Never say never. But we need to digest more the success of this movie because it was something unique. And if you want to think of a new one, it has to be really, very, very good. Therefore, if this will happen, it will not be for next year. But maybe next year we’re going to be here [at the press day], and hopefully we have something more to announce [then].”

Cue made sure to highlight what Apple is doing with F1 right now, giving the fans something to sate them until a sequel arrives. “I’ve got a great announcement for it. We’ve got 24 F1 movies this year on Apple TV,” he explained, comparing the 24 actual F1 races coming this season with the high octane Brad Pitt film. “I don’t know the ending, and so it is the best unscripted drama that there could be in the world.”

Domenicali added of the first film, “I remember very clearly in February 2021, when you, together with [Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer] came to my office to discuss this new idea. I was fascinated by it, of course, but also worried about creating the right ecosystem and making sure that the project was real and authentic.

“Because for us, it was really crucial to make sure that we could present our world in a context of Hollywood and a movie and be real,” he added, before confirming they were able to accomplish just that through “an incredible experience” for both F1 and Apple.

All of which leads us to believe an F1 sequel is likely on the horizon — and frankly, with the first film's success, how could it not be? The movie, which was released in June 2025, is officially Apple TV’s highest grossing project thus far, netting approximately $630 million globally. It’s also Pitt’s highest grossing movie ever and the largest earning sports movie to date. There’s seemingly no way any executives on either side are going to let that slide without tapping the cash cow at least one more time, but it remains to be seen how long we’ll have to wait for a second installment.

F1 is now available to stream on Apple TV+.

Lex Briscuso is a film and television critic and a freelance entertainment writer for IGN. They’ve made a movie based on Dracula! Oh, wait, what’s that? They are making Dracula movies all the time? Almost constantly one might argue?

Look, Dracula is an all-time great story anchored by an all-time great horror villain that has given us a ton of memorable films and TV shows since it debuted in 1897. But lately, it feels like there was some sort of bet between studios and producers to see how many different versions we could get close together.

Since 2023 alone, we’ve had Renfield, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Abigail, Nosferatu, and Abraham's Boys - all of which were derived from the original Dracula story to some capacity, whether it be using specific story elements or characters or by creating their own sequel scenarios. And now we have yet another film, which is going simple on the title level and leaving it at Dracula.

And the movie is… fine. But it feels like if you’re going to do this story again, especially right now, fine isn’t quite enough.

Written and directed by Luc Besson, this version is a more direct adaptation of the novel than other recent takes on the story (Nosferatu’s name-changed version aside), with Caleb Landry Jones starring as our not-so-good count. But where the credits only say the film is based on Bram Stoker’s novel, it sure seems like they should have thanked screenwriter James V. Hart and director Francis Ford Coppola as well, because wow does this version owe a lot to their 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

It was Coppola’s movie that directly introduced the idea that Mina, the girl Dracula is targeting in Stoker’s original story, is the reincarnation of his great love from when he was human. Besson’s film uses that concept as its central conceit, even echoing some of the structure changes that movie added to the story, with a similar opening where a pre-vampire Vlad returns from war, only to find he’s lost Elizabeth (played here by Zoë Bleu, who also plays Mina) – albeit with the specifics changed up of how and why this occurred.

This is an aggressively weird film at times, which leans into comedy more than you might expect.

Also riding the line between loving homage and blatant copying is the look of the decrepit Dracula when Jonathan Harker (Ewens Abid) goes to his castle, which is very clearly modeled after Gary Oldman’s memorable makeup and white wig in the 1992 version, which at the time was a very new spin on Dracula. All of which makes this a Dracula movie with an uphill battle, because on the surface, rather than justifying its existence with an interesting new take on Dracula, it’s mimicking someone else’s interesting take on Dracula.

And yet there are points where the movie was winning me over. This is an aggressively weird film at times, which leans into comedy more than you might expect, and some of it is legitimately strangely funny. That includes the scenes between Jonathan and Dracula, in which the unaware lawyer is fumbling with his papers and keeps missing “You’re with a vampire!” red flags like the Count killing a mouse and draining its blood into a cup to drink or using the telekinesis powers he leans heavily on in this movie to rid himself of a potential weapon that could be used against him. There’s also a moment where a vampire is decapitated that includes a rather hysterical physical comedy beat that felt like it was out of a Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell Evil Dead movie in terms of bonkers, cartoon-style zaniness mixed with gore.

If the movie had just fully committed to this sort of tone, it probably would have been for the best, but it also seems like we’re meant to take its central love story – and how Dracula’s adoration for Elizabeth has kept him going for hundreds of years until he meets Mina – and be truly invested in it. But that never really clicks in, because it’s all too heightened and plays too silly from the start. This goes for an opening montage of Vlad and Elizabeth in their oh-so happy days before he’s sent to war that has so much grinning and frolicing – they’re gleefully jumping around! They’re having a playful food fight! – that it feels like it’s from The Naked Gun.

One of the most curious yet intriguing elements of the movie is its choice of lead actor. Caleb Landry Jones is extremely talented, as proven in projects like Get Out, Twin Peaks: The Return, and Nitram. But as much as it’s great to see actors stretch themselves in different types of roles, there’s a reason Landry’s been cast as so many quirky characters – whether they be troubled, outright villains, or goodhearted – and that’s because there’s a certain aura he projects and excels at.

Little about his presence or physicality is a great fit for the early scenes in Dracula where we’re meant to believe he’s the greatest, most skilled warrior on the battlefield in his prior human life. And despite being in his mid-30s, Jones also still looks quite boyish, which makes him an odd fit for the would-be debonair, sophisticated version of Dracula who seeks to woo Mina. Still, Jones is always compelling on screen, and he excels in offbeat scenes like the ones in which Dracula is toying with Jonathan – including when he lets out one hell of an amazing wild and wheezing extended laugh when the lawyer manages to amuse him.

What’s funny is that Besson has basically said this version of Dracula exists because, after working with him on 2023’s Dogman, he was so taken with Jones that he crafted his script with the actor in mind. Besson has had a lot of misfires and duds in recent years, and he’s never been able to consistently recapture the strength of his early output in the 1990s when he was delivering films like La Femme Nikita, The Professional and The Fifth Element. With Dracula, he shows he still has a good eye and, while the movie strains within what is clearly a restricted budget, often looking smaller than you feel it’s meant to, there are some clever visual flourishes, such as the image of an army standing across a burning horizon. But then there are the little CGI gargoyles who serve as Dracula’s minions, which are among a few baffling additions.

Perhaps the oddest addition to the Dracula lore here is that rather than simply giving him the power to enthrall, he uses a special perfume that magically puts women under his sway, which is represented by a full blown dance number montage of women adoring him. That sequence is sort of fun, but it’s also kind of dumb, and it feels rather random like much of the film. I suspect its randomness will work better for some than others, because there is something to be said for going this wacky at times. But it never feels all that cohesive and never truly takes off.

The supporting cast are all solid, led by the great Christoph Waltz as this film’s version of the vampire hunter Van Helsing – here reimagined as a never-named priest who’s seen it all. It’s not exactly a challenging role, as Waltz is given plenty of semi-snarky comedic throwaway lines, the likes of which he can deliver in his sleep at this point, although it is funny that the actor has now appeared in new versions of both Frankenstein and Dracula within just a few months of each other.

Where to Stream the Entire Pokémon Series in Order

With over 1300 episodes and 24 movies split across streaming services, it can be hard to track down the Pokémon anime online. A quarter-century later, the franchise is about as long as legendary anime like One Piece.

Unlike something like One Piece or Dragon Ball, which have a continuous, serialized story, Pokémon is more of an episodic narrative with mostly standalone episodes. Even though there is a progression from series to series, you could theoretically skip around and watch the ones that interest you the most without being completely lost.

Still, the era of streaming splitting everything up between multiple platforms makes finding (let alone watching) the entirety of Pokémon a mighty task. That's why we're here: to round up where you can watch every Pokémon season and movie online.

How Long Is the Pokémon Series?

The Pokémon series so far includes over 1300 episodes across 27 seasons. There are also 23 animated Pokémon movies and the live-action Detective Pikachu film. In addition to the streaming links listed below, most of the Pokémon series is available on DVD.

How to Watch Pokémon Online (in Order)

For American audiences, the Pokémon series is split across quite a few streaming services. The original series as well as the most recent seasons can be found on U.S. Netflix, while some seasons can be found on free streaming sites like Tubi. Hoopla, which requires a library card but is otherwise free, has a "Pokémon Bingepass" that includes Seasons 6-13 of the anime series and is the only way to stream seasons 6-10 online.

Otherwise, Prime Video has a Pokémon channel add-on for $2.99/month that lets you stream a decent chunk of the series that isn't available elsewhere. Prime Video subscriptions, including the Pokémon channel, offer a seven-day free trial for those trying to watch a specific movie or series for free. Just remember to cancel your subscription before it auto-renews.

1. Pokémon Indigo League (1997)

Pokémon the Series: Season 1

The season that started it all! This one is full of exciting moments, but also rather emotional ones — including a final heartbreak that sets the stage for Pokémon's approach to winning and losing.

Where to Stream: Netflix

2. Pokémon: The First Movie (1998)

One of the best Pokémon movies, this is as big a '90s time capsule as they come, with a bangin' soundtrack and some big tear-jerking sequences ("Brother My Brother" never fails to hit hard).

Where to Stream: You have to rent or purchase this one digitally (see at Prime Video)

3. Pokémon Adventures in Orange Islands (1999)

Pokémon the Series: Season 2

A downgrade from the first season, but nevertheless an exciting Pokémon adventure. Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai (2007)

The first part of a fantastic trilogy, this movie is close to being a full-on cosmic horror film. Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life (2009)

The end of the movie trilogy goes takes the franchise to a theological place, with Arceus presenting itself as an actual PokéGod. This is a very wild movie, essentially a biblical epic, but with Pokémon, plus there is a lot of time-travel.

Where to Stream: Hulu or Prime Video (with Pokemon add-on)

26. Pokémon Zoroark – Master of Illusions (2010)

Another movie about trying to control a powerful Pokémon and upsetting the balance of nature, leading to widespread destruction. It's not the most original of the movies.

Where to Stream: Hulu or Prime Video (with Pokemon add-on)

28. Pokémon the Movie: Black – Victini and Reshiram (2011)

Now, this is an interesting experiment. But, as always, we can usually count on the actors to let slip some intriguing new details. Ian McKellen is the latest to commit a Tom Holland-style faux pas. McKellen recently teased a major set piece in the new film when he spoke to the YouTube channel Jake’s Takes.

"Two police cars in front of me were raised up by cranes," McKellen reminisced about a sequence in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. "These were not special effects. Nowadays, I think things will become a little bit easier — though I did destroy New Jersey the other day. Oooh, I perhaps shouldn't have said that..."

This tells us that McKellen’s Magneto will be a very dangerous adversary in Doomsday, on a level we never saw in the older X-Men movies. But why would Magneto destroy New Jersey? And does this mean Marvel Studios is adapting perhaps the most infamous Magneto storyline of all time? Let’s break it down.

Beware of potential spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday ahead!

Will Avengers: Doomsday Adapt Ultimatum?

McKellen’s comments immediately bring to mind 2009’s Ultimatum, a series that pits the Ultimate Universe versions of the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four against a very angry Magneto. As the story opens, Magneto has gone off the deep end after being confronted with the deaths of his children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. In retaliation, he attempts to destroy human civilization by reversing Earth’s magnetic poles and causing a series of global disasters.

One of those disasters includes a massive tidal wave that hits Manhattan and drowns thousands. Even a great many superheroes like Daredevil, Beast, and Nightcrawler are killed in the deluge. It’s not New Jersey – though it is just on the other side of the Hudson River – but this story remains the most notable example of one where Magneto destroys a major American metropolis.

How does Magneto accomplish an act as terrible as this? It’s all thanks to Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Magneto captures the hammer in the prelude story, 2008’s The Ultimates 3. Using his magnetic powers, Magneto is effectively able to cancel out Mjolnir’s enchantment and manipulate the hammer to his will.

Drowning Manhattan is just the opening salvo in Magneto’s war of destruction. By the end of Ultimatum, numerous heroes are dead, including Wolverine and the majority of the X-Men. Even Cyclops is assassinated, but not before he vaporizes Magneto’s head. Ultimatum even ends with Doctor Doom himself getting his head crushed by The Thing, proving that no one was wearing plot armor in the Ultimate Universe anymore.

Ultimatum is not a well-regarded comic, to put it mildly. It’s not just the shoddy characterization and the number of major deaths featured in this story, but the bizarre, faux-edgy tone in which those deaths are presented. One particularly reviled scene shows Magneto’s henchman, the Blob, devouring the corpse of the Wasp like a ravenous zombie. Though Marvel’s Ultimate line continued for several years after, some would argue Ultimatum marked the beginning of the end for this universe.

In short, Ultimatum is not the first X-Men/Avengers crossover story we’d think of for Marvel to adapt in Doomsday. But is there a kernel of a good idea here? Certainly, the basic concept of Magneto singlehandedly annihilating a major city has some merit to it. Could it be reworked to fit the MCU? Let’s take a closer look at how Doomsday could loosely adapt Ultimatum for its own benefit.

Magneto’s Role in Doomsday

For a while now, we’ve been speculating that Avengers: Doomsday is basically an Avengers vs. X-Men movie. The casting announcements made in 2025 and the recent X-Men-themed Doomsday teaser both seem to bear out that theory. We know that the majority of the original Fox X-Men cast are turning to reprise their roles (though, oddly, Hugh Jackman’s name isn’t among them). Doomsday is a multiverse story, and it’s going to bring together the MCU’s Earth-616 and the X-Men universe’s Earth-10005 (and The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Earth-828).

It appears that Doomsday is going to borrow a fair amount from Avengers: Time Runs Out and the first issue of 2015’s Secret Wars. Time Runs Out deals with the mounting crisis that arises as more and more universes are destroyed by the phenomenon known as Incursions. By the time Secret Wars opens, only the core Marvel Universe (Earth-616) and the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) are left. The heroes of both worlds are drawn into a desperate final battle that ultimately proves pointless.

Doomsday will likely follow a similar premise, except that the final two universes in the Marvel movie multiverse will be the MCU and Fox’s X-Men universe. The Avengers are fighting the X-Men. And based on McKellen’s comments, we suspect that Magneto is really going to bring his A-game for this fight.

This is where Doomsday may borrow a page from Ultimatum. What if, during the course of the fight, Magneto intercepts Mjolnir and turns its magic against the Avengers? Just like in the comic, he could use its power to reverse Earth’s polarity and cause a devastating tidal wave. He wouldn’t be attacking his own Earth, but rather the planet threatening the survival of the entire mutant race.

McKellen and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto is a character of constantly evolving morals and loyalties. But if there’s one consistent truth about the character, it’s that he’d do anything to ensure the salvation of mutantkind. And based on the X-Men-centric Doomsday teaser, we know the Sentinels are in play for some reason. Perhaps Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is using them to stoke conflict between the Avengers and X-Men? In any case, drowning one world’s New Jersey under a tsunami seems like the kind of thing Magneto would do when push comes to shove.

The question is whether the fallout of that act will be similar to the comic. Will we see Magneto actually kill iconic MCU heroes when he destroys New Jersey? It’s possible. When Doomsday is dealing with the literal fate of existence, we can’t assume any character is truly safe. That’s especially true since the premise of Avengers: Secret Wars makes it easy enough for Doom to resurrect any characters he chooses as part of his new Battleworld.

The world will eventually be restored to some semblance of normality at the end of Secret Wars, but that doesn’t mean things won’t get pretty hairy along the way. Just don’t expect Doomsday to adapt that grotesque Blob/Wasp scene. Some things are better left to the comics.

For more on Avengers: Doomsday, find out why the Steve Rogers teaser has us so disappointed, and learn why the Thor teaser is a great reminder that Thor can and should be serious.

Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. This was before cameras were recording everything, and also before a curious person could navigate to the dark underbelly of the internet to see gross videos. In other words, many people had never seen anyone die.

For my friends and me, Faces of Death was a series of VHS tapes that offered just that. Each installment was a collection of otherwise unrelated videos of people and/or animals meeting their doom in a variety of ways. The footage was often grainy, the camera work unstable. Even if it wasn't all real, it definitely felt real, and it was ugly. Watching Faces of Death made you feel bad.

But you were also sort of intrigued. You definitely watched it with friends, and it was like a game of chicken: you didn’t want to be the first to lose your nerve and turn it off. The movie had a cultish, morbid, grotesque air to it. The marketing boasted that it was "banned in 46 countries." Even though I now know some of it is fake, it's still wild to me to see it getting a steelbook collector's edition.

Does the movie still hold its awful power in 2026? I don't know, but I suspect it does. Death is always a shocking and horrific thing. In any case, I have no intention of finding out – I'm never going to watch this movie again.

Faces of Death is very much a product of its pre-internet time. But pop culture is cyclical, and so it’s no surprise that a 2026 remake is in the works. It stars Barbie Ferreira and Charli XCX. We'll see if the sordid brand can still pull an audience to a movie that will surely be a much different beast than the original.

Chris Reed is a commerce editor and deals expert for IGN. At long last, Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe will be officially coming to both big and small screens courtesy of Apple TV. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal will adapt his most popular Mistborn (Era 1) and Stormlight Archive book series into film and television series, respectively, with Sanderson himself set to “write, produce, and consult” on the projects.

As a big fan of Brandon Sanderson and his works, (check out my reviews of both the Cosmere TTRPG and Mistborn deck building card game), I thought I would put together a short little helper guide for any of you out there that want to get a jump on the stories and characters that will soon be jumping out of your screens.

If once you finish these books and find yourself chomping at the bit for more, check out our full reading guide on The Cosmere to figure out where to go next!

Mistborn - Era 1

Mistborn and its metal-burning allomancers will be the first of the Cosmere works to coin-push their way from the pages and onto the screen in the form of films. Along with the Stormlight Archive’s world of Roshar, Mistborn’s Scadriel forms what could be considered the backbone of the entire universe-spanning story that Sanderson has been weaving together for the past two decades. The world of Scadrial is told over the course of multiple Eras, with only the first set of books, referred to as “Era 1” being the focus of the first film.

Mistborn (Era 1) follows Vin, a thief with the ability to use Allomancy, Scadrial’s special type of magic, which allows a person to burn specific metals for various effects. We don’t know just yet if Apple and Brandon will attempt to condense into a single film the entire Vin saga (I highly doubt it), but here is what you should check out beforehand. Considering Sanderson is only 2% done with the screenplay, you still have plenty of time.

The Books

Besides being perhaps the best jumping-in point for the whole Cosmere, Mistborn Era 1 consists of three main books, starting with Mistborn: The Final Empire. These should all be read in order, but they will provide a great idea of the sort of quality and creative magic systems you can expect in the rest of the Cosmere.

Mistborn: The Final Empire

The Well of Ascension

The Hero of Ages

Other stuff:

While we have no idea just what will be covered in the film (Brandon has said that he is taking the next six months to work on its screenplay), there is a good bit of supplemental material focused around Mistborn you can enjoy as well. It’s advised to read them only after completing the trilogy. There is also a really fun deck-building card game, Mistborn: The Deck-Building Game, that lets you and your friends fight against the antagonist of the books or against each other, which has an expansion releasing this year.

The Eleventh Metal (Arcanum Unbounded)

Mistborn: Secret History (Arcanum Unbounded - READ AFTER HERO OF AGES)

Mistborn: The Deck-building game

The Stormlight Archive

Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king. Taking place on the world of Roshar, readers are dropped into the middle of a decades-long war between the Parshendi who inhabit the Shattered Plains and the Alethi from the kingdom of Alethkar.. A powerful storm known as the Everstorm endlessly circles the planet, bringing with it precious Stormlight which powers the magic and devices of the land. With immortal champions known as the Heralds holding back the tide of evil from engulfing their world, this world and its champions and the heroes who rise up may just turn out to be some of the most important people in all of The Cosmere.

The Stormlight Archive is what the television series will be based off of, but to what extent remains a mystery still. As someone who has read the books, it’s hard to imagine that each book will only be a single season, but regardless of what is decided, here are the books you will want to read to make sure you’re ready when the show is released!

The Books

The Stormlight Archive is Sanderson’s giant epic fantasy series and will be the focus of the television series in the deal made with Apple. The fifth book, and conclusion to the first arc of the Stormlight Archive, released in December of 2024 with the sixth book not expected until 2031 (seriously). With most of the books surpassing 1000 pages, tackling these books is a quest in itself, and much like Mistborn, they should be read sequentially.

The Way of Kings

Words of Radiance

Oathbringer

Rhythm of War

Wind and Truth

Other stuff:

Much like Mistborn, Brandon has written small short stories and novellas that further flesh out Roshar and some of the characters within the Stormlight Archive. As the first one, Edgedancer, doesn’t take place until between the second and third books, it will probably be quite some time yet before their influence or details are incorporated into the show. Luffy, a boy with a body that responds like rubber thanks to eating Devil Fruit, on his quest to become the next Pirate King by finding the ultimate treasure of legendary Pirate, Gold Roger. Based on Eiichiro Oda's best-selling manga series, One Piece is full of epic battles and a highly entertaining and eclectic ensemble of characters known as the Straw Hat Pirates.

With over 1,000 episodes across over 20 seasons (divided into 10 sagas with 52 different story arcs), specials, OVAs and shorts, it can be difficult to decide when and where to put the One Piece movies into your (re)watch list. But the stories are built around canon characters and offer an opportunity to learn more about the world of the Straw Hat Pirates.

While the original One Piece movies are a little hard to track down online, more recent One Piece movies are available to stream on Crunchyroll and also have Blu-ray releases.

Where to Stream One Piece

If you want to start the true binge (don't be intimidated by that episode number, it's worth it), the One Piece anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix. One Piece: The Movie (watch after episode 18)

The Straw Hat Pirates find themselves pitted against the ruthless pirate Eldoraggo after an encounter with a trio of thieves. The Straw Hat Pirates must thwart Eldoraggo on his hunt for the treasure of a legendary captain and secure the hoard of gold for themselves. One Piece: The Movie falls in between the Syrup Village arc and the Baratie arc of the East Blue Saga. It offers a good, if visually nostalgic, world overview by showcasing the early days of the crew as they embark on a treasure hunt.

2. One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure (watch after episode 53)

The Straw Hat Pirates join forces with the Thief Brothers in order to recover their stolen ship, Going Merry and weapons from bandits. The crew and their allies must go to war against the pirate clan reigning over the Clockwork Island, in order to stop their leader from acquiring a superweapon and forcing their crew mate Nami into marriage. One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure falls after the second half of the Loguetown arc of the East Blue Saga. While this may be a standalone story it's a fun must-watch adventure about a vacation gone awry.

3. One Piece: Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals (watch after episode 102)

Stories about a great treasure lure the Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates to the wilderness of Crown Island where the crew encounters intelligent animals. While separate from the rest of the Straw Hats, the crew’s doctor Tony Tony Chopper triggers a prophecy and ends up crowned the island's lord and protector, the King of Beasts. Despite a few interesting fight scenes, Chopper’s Kingdom is an extremely skippable filler film. But if you’re a completionist, One Piece: Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals falls after episode 102 of the Arabasta Arc: in the Arabasta Saga.

4. One Piece: Dead End Adventure (watch after episode 138)

The Straw Hat Pirates need cash so they enter an underground race between pirates known as the Dead End Competition. The crew finds themselves pitted against a vice-admiral with his own powers and his formidable bounty hunter sidekick. Dead End Adventure is the first full-length feature and offers a fantastic adventure newbies and diehards can enjoy. This movie can be watched at any point after episode 130 but we think it falls in line best after episode 138 in the Goat Island arc of the Sky Island Saga.

5. One Piece: The Cursed Holy Sword (watch after episode 143)

The Cursed Holy Sword centers on Zoro, the crew’s swordsman. While on the island of Asuka, the Straw Hat Pirates learn about a legendary cursed sword the Shichiseiken. The crew’s quickly swept up in the shenanigans of marines intent on freeing the sword. Zoro’s joined their ranks and the rest of the crew must unravel his reasons and figure out what’s going on. This film is a chaotic mess that doesn’t fully come together and is pretty much a miss unless you’re just dying to know more about Zoro. The Cursed Holy Sword falls in line best after episode 14 of the Ruluka Island arc in the Sky Island Saga.

6. One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (watch after episode 224)

Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, the sixth movie in the franchise, see the Straw Hat Pirates interrupt their journey to Grand Line for a pit stop on a recreation island to relax. Upon arrival the leader of the island, Baron Omatsuri, welcomes them and gives them seven challenges to achieve greater relaxation. The remainder of the movie is unraveling the mystery lurking beneath the surface of this seemingly happy community. Without giving anything away for the uninitiated, it's safe to say the Secret Island should not be on your skip list. The Secret Island falls in line best after episode 224 of the Ocean’s Dream arc in the Water 7 Saga.

7. One Piece: The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle (watch after episode 228)

If you’re in the mood for great action sequences and an off-kilter plotline, then The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle will fully satisfy. The Straw Hats find and open a treasure box. Instead of loot, the crew finds an old lady inside. They agree to help her return home in exchange for a treasure on her Mecha Island. Upon arrival, the crew comes under attack by the island’s leader before he reverses track and asks for their help finding the treasure. Karakuri Castle is best seen after episode 228 of the Foxy’s Return arc in the Water 7 Saga.

8. One Piece – Episode of Arabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates (watch after episode 312)

Most One Piece fans will list the Arabasta arc as one of the best in the franchise. Which means if you watched the episodes, then this movie is extremely skippable. This movie is essentially a condensed version of that storyline that doesn’t offer any new storywise. If you need or want a refresher offered with high quality action sequences then watch the Episode of Arabasta remake after episode 312.

Stream: Netflix | Rent/Buy: Apple TV

9. One Piece: Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura (watch after episode 325)

The Chopper Plus remake changes events and adds new canon characters, including a sidekick for the villain Wapol, to the original episodes in the Drum Island arc. It’s best to view watch this One Piece movie as an alternate universe where Luffy’s still trying to save crewmate Nami with different obstacles. If you’re interested in seeing the Bloom in Winter play out in a parallel world, watch Chopper Plus after episode 325 and the end of the Water 7 Saga.

Stream: Netflix

10. One Piece Film: Strong World (watch after episode 381)

Luffy and his crewmates learn that islands in East Blue have been destroyed. The crew discovers that an ex-member of the Rocks Pirates, Shiki the Golden Lion, is responsible. Shiki wants to destroy the marines. After he kidnaps Nami to become their navigator, the Straw Hats decide to take matters into their own hands. They come together to battle the legendary Shiki and rescue Nami. Strong World showcases Shiki’s devil fruit powers and pits Luffy and crew against a myriad of challenges. Strong World is absolutely not canon but makes for a great ride. Watch it any time after episode 381. But we suggest waiting until after the last episode (429) of Little East Blue arc of the Summit Saga for best alignment in this epic journey.

Stream: Netflix | Rent/Buy: Prime Video

11. One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (watch after episode 381)

One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase gets treated as the eleventh movie in the One Piece franchise, but in reality it’s more of a short (and at this point, kind of lost media). Luffy wakes up to a missing crew and spends the entire movie on the hunt for them. Cue it up directly after finishing Strong World because there’s nothing special to separate it from the pack. Straw Hat Chase is pretty much impossible to find and so skippable not even hardcore completionists will demand you sit through it.

12. One Piece Film: Z (watch after episode 578)

One Piece Film: Z aims right for the feels with a story centering former marine admiral Z. Z’s stolen a dangerous weapon known as the “Dyna Stones,” and now the Straw Hat Pirates and other admirals must battle him to stop the end of the world. Widely considered one of the best One Pieces movies, Z is colorful and action-packed on top of being a tear-jerker. There’s a bit of debate about the best time to slide Z into the timeline. It’s viewers choice: cue it up after episode 573 or wait until the end of the Z’s Ambition arc with episode 578. Whichever you decide, not watching it would be a mistake.

Stream: Netflix | Rent/Buy: Prime Video

13. Do expect to see plenty of fan favorite characters, and the full range of powers operation in the One Piece World. Stampede is next-level fan service wrapped in an epic adventure. This must see movie can be watched any time after episode 889, the end of the Whole Cake Saga. The Straw Hats attend a concert hosted by Uta, a famous singer, on Elegia the Island of Music. Things quickly go awry when the attendees discover that Uta is the daughter for Shanks, chief of the Red Hair Pirates. It should be noted that Red is initially driven by songs since that’s how Uta’s power manifests but the unfolding mysteries, chases, displays of legendary powers, and dangerous encounters make it all worthwhile. Red fits seamlessly after the Uta's Past arc of the Wano Country Saga.

Stream: Crunchyroll | Rent/Buy: Prime Video

How to Watch One Piece Movies in Release Order

One Piece: The Movie (2000)

Clockwork Island Adventure (2001)

Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals (2002)

Dead End Adventure (2003)

The Cursed Holy Sword (2004)

Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (2005)

Giant Mecha Soldier of Karakuri Castle (2006)

The Desert Princess and the Pirates: Adventures in Alabasta (2007)

Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Cherry Blossom (2008)

One Piece Film: Strong World (2009)

Straw Hat Chase (2011)

One Piece Film: Z (2012)

One Piece Film: Gold (2016)

One Piece: Stampede (2019)

One Piece Film: Red (2022)

The Future of One Piece

Eiichiro Oda has been teasing that he’s almost done with the One Piece manga for about 15 years, yet here we are. Though no one has a clear idea of when the manga (and therefore the anime) will end, we do know a few years. At a Jump Festa event in December 2025, Oda teased the end of the Elbaph arc for 2026 and said “The story will be moving at a breakneck speed.”

The One Piece anime is going through big changes this year, as it is changing from a weekly to a seasonal release schedule and will only release a maximum of 26 episodes per year starting this April with the Elbaph arc adaptation. We still don’t know when the next One Piece movie is going to come out, but Oda said it is not going particularly well production-wise. Still, he teased at Jump Festa that the story is one “all of you will be very interested in.”

There’s also an upcoming remake of One Piece titled “The One Piece” which is in production.

What About the Netflix Show?

While we don't have any news about new One Piece movies, we do know that the One Piece live-action series is returning for a second season some time in 2026. A new teaser for Season 2 also seems to confirm that Season 3 has already been greenlit.

Another major One Piece collaboration is LEGO releasing seven new One Piece sets based on the first season of the Netflix show. The Disney film was made available on digital platforms just last week after its record-breaking box office run and the official Blu-ray release date was announced for March 3, 2026.

Preorders for the physical release of Disney's hit sequel are finally dropping online. The limited-edition 4K steelbook for collectors is available right now, but there's still no sign of the Blu-ray or DVD versions just yet. The steelbook is currently priced at $44.99, which is almost twice as much as it costs to rent the film digitally.

The Zootopia 2 4K Steelbook Is Available at Amazon

The Zootopia 2 Steelbook comes with both the 4K and Blu-ray discs as well as loads of bonus features. The main draw of this edition of the film is the steelbook itself, but it's also currently the only 4K or Blu-ray option available to buy. There will be a standard 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release of this movie later on, but for now you can only preorder this one. Like all preorders on Amazon, this steelbook includes Amazon's preorder price guarantee if you buy now. That means that even though the price is currently at $44.99, you'll likely pay a little bit less than that if the price drops any time between now and its release date.

The Zootopia 2 Steelbook also comes with a variety of bonus features and deleted scenes. The look of the sequel builds off the vibrant world of the original, and while thematically the movie may bite off more than it can chew, Zootopia 2, like its bunny-cop hero, shares a contagious hope that things can always change." - Clint Gage

Looking for more Blu-ray releases? A standard Blu-ray disc will usually offer 1080p resolution whereas a 4K disc will offer 2160p resolution. And while all Blu-ray players will be able to play those 1080p discs, not every machine is equipped for 4K.

Best 4K TVs

If you're looking to buy a new TV that will make your 4K movies shine, you'll definitely want to take a look at our favorites. Our tech editors have selected the best 4K TVs for gaming, which will also work great for movie-watching. And since both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have 4K Blu-ray play-back built in, you'll probably be doing plenty of gaming on them as well.

LG C5 OLED Smart Gaming TV

83" LG C5 OLED Smart TV - $2996.97

77" LG C5 OLED Smart TV - $1996.99

65" LG C5 OLED Smart TV - $1396.99

55" LG C5 OLED Smart TV - $1196.99

42" LG C5 OLED Smart TV - $818.90

The LG G5 is currently our top pick for a gaming TV, but the price on those refelcts their quality. Which is to say they're really expensive. If you want a deal on a terrific TV in a more reasonable price range, you might want to consider picking an LG C3, which costs significantly less for the same size TV. But what should fans expect to see? And, perhaps more importantly, what should they expect not to see?

A new report from Deadline suggests Marvel will skip the Super Bowl ad rush entirely, which would mean no Spider-Man: Brand New Day or Avengers: Doomsday trailers. If true, this would be a shock omission, as Marvel has a history of using the Super Bowl to tease its upcoming movies. Last year, for example, Marvel showed up with a trailer for Thunderbolts*. In 2024, Marvel fans were given a first look at Deadpool & Wolverine.

Similarly, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. will sit out the Super Bowl, which means no new trailer for Supergirl. But that’s less of a surprise than the Marvel skip, given Warner Bros. tends not to go in on the Super Bowl.

So, if Marvel isn’t splurging millions of dollars for a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl, who is? According to Deadline, we’ll see a new trailer for Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, due out April 24. We’ll also reportedly get a new trailer for Scream 7, which hits theaters on February 27.

While Marvel is sitting it out, parent company Disney is reportedly all in on the Super Bowl, with trailers for Pixar’s Hoppers and Toy Story 5 apparently due. Deadline also expects a trailer for Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is due out in May.

Meanwhile, Deadline said to also expect new trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Minions 3, and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, which comes out on June 12.

Super Bowl LX kicks off this Sunday, February 8, and will see the Seattle Seahawks do battle with the New England Patriots.
